[Practice] Jigsaw Reading

(Taken from a Teaching Workshop)

LEVEL: High-Beginner or later

TIME: 1 hour 30 minutes

PURPOSE: Writing, Reading, Speaking, Listening

PREPARATION + MATERIALS:

  • 5 stories (or however many groups)
    • 250 words max
    • Should include new vocabulary
    • Be appropriate for classroom level
  • 5 groups (or however many stories)
  • Each group will have a unique story, so each student in a group should have their own copy of the groups story.

GOAL: Students teach each other about what they learn

ACTIVITY:

Put students in groups. Each group is given a different story. The students read the story together and locate new vocabulary. They then must prepare a presentation, explaining the story to their fellow students along with new vocabulary.
